Barbara, your female cat should be spayed by now. She has given you some kittens and now you should just improve her health and get her spayed. Keeping your cat intact will bring you more problems than you really want to deal with. It opens up the female to health issues like pyometra and mammary cancers. The very best thing you can do for this cat is to trap her (if she is not inside) and take her to the vet.

My kitten's mother growls at her offspring at various times. Usually I though it was because she didn't want her kitten playing with her tail. But some other website said feral cats in heat are tempermental.

Also, when do female adult cats usually go into menopause?

Thank you.
