The Cat Food Cringe
I still wonder every time I open a can of Fancy Feast or pour out some Cat Chow if I am keeping my cats safe? With still more pet food being recalled on a daily basis, the trust I had in pet foods is slowly vanishing. None of my cats are acting strangely with the exception of Guinevere who has suddenly been peeing up a storm. Literally, she soaked over half of her litter pan earlier today. This could be an indication of one of several health issues, her thyroid may be acting up, she could have diabetes, or she could be in kidney failure. I will keep my eye on her closely and if she keeps up the steady urine output, I will take her in to the vet on Monday. She is my only inside senior cat.
Cleo is also acting off. As I logged about it before, I think he has been injured by the roll by that feral cat. He is really sensitive on his back end, and going to the bathroom is difficult for him. I gave him two enemas earlier with no return, not a good sign. Manx cats are known for their inability to pass stool, due to the absence of a portion of their nerve plexus. As they grow older, this problem becomes more pronounced.
I know because in the past, I have taken him in to see a vet, that there is next to nothing that can be done for him. I was advised to give him lactulose, or metamucil daily to see if the stool will pass. I still have lactulose left over from India’s injury, so I will start giving this to him and praying he will soon overcome this.
I just heard that more pet food is being recalled. The food is for dogs. The Ol Roy brand both the canned food and the treats. Great! I tossed the other day, a full can of Ol Roy’s jerky after feeding a stick to Lei and her vomiting almost immediately. I am seriously disgusted about this whole situation, and really believe it is going to get much worse before it gets better.
