Pet Food Fallout
Both cats have now been diagnosed with renal medullary washout. Translation, their kidneys are no longer able to concentrate their urine, so fluids simply flow through them.
A week ago, both these cats were active, healthy loving cats. Now they are lethargic, withdrawn, fearful, they have decreased appetite and they are filling up their litterpans faster than I can clean them.
The nephrons have been gradually destroyed within their systems on a pretty rapid basis which is not normal. Kidney disease is generally a gradual progression of symptoms. Although the vet isn’t willing to point a finger at the food it is quite a coincidence that suddenly two of my cats are diagnosed with the same thing in line with the tainted food symptoms others are also experiencing. Truly sucks

So sorry to hear about this. It seems like the number of cats and dogs effected by this is increasing every day. Truly frightening. I hope the vet is able to make the cats comfortable through their ordeal.

Would you mind sharing what brand of food the two cats were eating?

The foods have been totally recalled. The company was contacted, I was told they would cover the vet bills. It serves no purpose to list the company. Until this incidence they were among the leading pet food industry giants. This unfortunate occurrence has led me to no longer trust any type of their pet food. I told them this on the phone the other morning.

Thank you for the update. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t a food brand that hasn’t been recalled. So far, the pet foods (Soldid Gold dry and Natural Balance wet) I am feeding my four cats haven’t been on any recall lists that I’ve seen, but I still worry.
Good to hear that the company said it will pay the vet bills. I’m sure this is only a very minor comfort, though, when having to watch the cats suffer.

you can get a complete list of recalled foods on a website by a friend of mine www.petsweekly.com Up-to-date, Stacy is keeping up with all that is going on right now, a job I do not envy her for.
