Please light a candle~~~~~

I just got the call, Trey tested positive for FIV- which stands for Feline Immunodefiency Virus- in other words- AIDS for cats. I asked that he be put down. 🙁

They said he didn’t have any broken bones, just a lot of open cat wounds, abscesses and the like. Someone didn’t neuter this boy and he paid for it with his life.

Trey, I am so very sorry that your life was so difficult and I couldn’t somehow make it better except to release you from pain-

  1. Trey will be at the Rainbow Bridge waiting to see all the friends he did not get to meet in person. Thank you for all your efforts on his behalf. He looked like a lovely boy!

  2. I’m so sorry. Thank you for helping him. And you’re so right, neutering early would’ve saved Trey’s life.
Personally, I’m torn over testing healthy ferals. Alley Cats doesn’t recommend it because limited resources are better spent on neutering. We just TNR’d 2 big, beautiful, prime-of-their-life wild males. I didn’t test, but I don’t know if I did right by them. I don’t suppose I’ll ever know for sure. It’s so hard.

  3. Trey had a hard life and likely wouldnt have gotten any better and then of died alone and in pain. He isnt suffering anymore. Thats all you could do.
On a different note, the FIV isnt exactly a death sentence. The studies have said FIV positives can live with nonpositives just fine. Leukemia is still the bad one, but there is actually a medication approved that can help in some cases.

  4. So sorry….you did the best that anyone could do for him at this point, you saved him from days or weeks of suffering.

  5. He also tested positive for the FeLV. he was only three years old- he was 27 pounds and had over 20 cat bites on his body! He didn’t have a prayer of surviving alone and outside at least now, he has peace.

  6. FIV is a scourge of outside cats. He would have died badly and probably in pain, if he hadn’t been captured and tested. People almost never adopt positive cats, though they can live long and enjoyable lives with the right people. It just wasn’t in this poor boy’s future.
