The unfairness of it-

He hasn’t recently had anyone who gave a hang about him.
He was left to fend for himself outside while trying to avoid being poisoned
Today, Sebastian lost his fight and was put to sleep
It happened so fast, my head is still trying to process it all
Couldn’t afford to let him suffer any longer- he had been suffering mightily for 24 hours
Suspect he had gotten into the poisons set up around the park to get rid of “nuisance cats.”
They got their wish, he paid with his life

Bye sweet boy- I will see you again

  1. when I hear of things like this I just hate people, and hate is such a strong word. RIP Sebastian, be at play with those that went before you. You had the ultimate love in your final hours and are free. Blessed are those that love and feel the love of a furry friend for it is the purest form of love!

  2. Oh Mary Ann – I am so very sorry. The cruelty of people will never cease to amaze me….as well as the compassion of people like you willing to take in the guys like Sebastian and help him – to live or to let him go. The ultimate gift is that he knew love and safety….

  3. He went so bloody fast. He was FINE yesterday and then last night he started looking punky. His eyes looked “checked out” I am so sad to say I know that look all to well. He stopped eating late afternoon but figured he was just full and had enough. I also knew he didn’t like captivity- but because he was such an impressive sprayer- I had little else place to put him. Checked the litter pan no alarms went off, everything was normal there. No wierd smells nothing. I got to him late this morning and wish now I hadn’t gotten sidetracked but I did. The 6 foot cage all three levels was flooded with bile. I have NEVER seen anything like it before and hope never to again. It was all over him and everything else in the cage. I am not talking pools of it, I am talking oceans of it.

I panicked and reached for him and he turned and bit me hard. But he had no smell off his rear, no fever-

I stepped away to carry off some of the damaged items and put them outside and when I came back, he was on the top level with his head hung over. There were no spasms, no contractions- his mouth was open and this bile just gushing out. Sorry to be so graphic but if I don’t put it out there and someone runs into this- at least they will have some idea.

I called my vet he said drop him off and he euthanized him. I wasn’t even there at the end due to emergencies in the clinic and short hours on the weekend. I heard they were putting out various types of poisons. I guess he didn’t really escape except in a permanent way and dammit- he HAD a barn that was waiting for him on the 1st! I’ve got the cage on lock-down and will be scrubbing the dickens out of it tomorrow. I set up a bleach step just in case. He had been tested for all the nasties and came up clean and all we can surmise is he got into the poisons.

  4. Poor Sebastian. You gave him a chance, but circumstances were against you. Such a situation must be very frustrating indeed, very painful.

  5. RIP Sebastian, your mommy did everything possible for you. You were dearly loved precious boy.
