Keeping Waterbowls from freezing in Wintertime

I went to the local thrift store today and they had a large batch of coffee warmers (the type I used to sit on my desk to keep my coffee warm when I worked in corporate America) It got me to thinking, so I bought all 6 of them $0.50 apiece! I took outside extensions cords and ran them from the garage and now all the outside water bowls are heated. I had to switch to ceramic bowls- but it beats the alternative of having the water ice over. Just passing the tip along-

  1. I wonder if you have a Amazon. Com wish list. I know the rescue groups around my area have these. You set it up on Amazon and then we order and ship it right to you. It is a great way to get you what you need and want. Maybe you have it already. I will have to check it out. Thanks

  2. After I wrote this I went and saw it….thanks. There is nothing in your wish list though. Just wondering what kind of food you buy or what bedding, toys, etc you might need. Heated water bowls?

  3. Mary Anne this has nothing to do with your post but I wanted to take a moment and thank you for all you do. This Thanksgiving I am thankful there are people like you who help those that need it the most. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours and ,of course, the furry ones!

  4. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Mary Anne – and thank you for all you do for the cats!

  5. I thought I had several things on my wish list. I must have messed it up- imagine that! I have tried several times to create one but it never seems to work? I had cat beds and heated cat blankets, small 10 gallon trash bags, cat scratching posts, fancy feast canned food, whiskas dry all sorts of cleaning supplies and micro litter. what I did wrong when I set it up, I will have to figure it all out.

  6. HI I think its wonderful what you do for animals (kitties). I TNR in my neighbothood..of course its endless..this year was bad for me I found 8 kittens and 2 had heart murmurs. most of my regulars ourside have FIV – I wanted to let you know that I go to Amazon and Ebay and have bought really cheap big water bowls that are electric. I have 3 outside. One for the birds, and two for wet food mixed with little olive oil, lysine supplement, vitamin c powder, kelp and hot water I leave out in the am for my ferals…I put dry food out as well but these heavy duty plastic food bowls are great. I use an extension cord thingy so I can hook em all up…its low voltage and they work for 4 years now…and chicago winters are brutal. I like your idea also!! xo-roni
