Juno is back home now

I just returned from picking up Juno. They did not find any polyps 🙁 But they did see extensive scarring and while he was under, they addressed the issue of his earmites/bacterial and fungal infection in his ears. They said he is just going to have to be on long-term antibiotics to keep him comfortable. I’m going to talk to the vet about putting him on holistic measures to see if that will help as antibiotics long-term cause more problems than they solve. They dewormed, de-flead him and sent him home on special diet as his gums are really nasty even though he has no teeth.

He is not a happy boy but he devoured his food when I just now gave it to him. I set up his vaporizer and plugged in his heater and will go and apologize to him later about his day. They did say that the scarring is such that Juno will probably never have a meow again in his life.

I was praying they would find the polyps so he could get better. Now time will tell whether he will be able to overcome all of this and be a better breather.

  1. wow he sure had a lot of issues, I am sure in a day or two he will feel so much better. Sad they didn’t find any polyps but hope the vet was able to do something that would make him breath better even a small bit. Poor kitty all that going on and yet he has love to show. Feel better little one!

  2. We’re guessing the scarring they found was in the sinuses? Did they have any idea what would have caused it?

Purrrrss that they were able to clean and smooth things out a little to help the boy breath a bit better.

  3. The scarring is from the endless drainage that he has had to contend with over the years. They suspect there is much more deep inside but the only way to determine this is with a cat scan and in these neck of the woods, those are out of reach financially. OSU is the only facility set up to do these scans and the. vets suspect he has extensive scar tissue.Even if this was confirmed, there would be little anyone could do at this stage. Scraping off scar tissue that has accumulated only creates more scar tissue later on.

I don’t know if all this was worth it though? I was up with him ALL night. He was almost frantic in his pacing, his meows sound like a wounded sea bird. I was cuddling him, comforting him doing all I could to just calm him down. Seems the only thing that calms him is the food. I must have fed him six times in the night.

I have to hope that the activity he displays currently is a result of the drugs given to him and it will wear down. He reminded me at times of a hamster in those wheels and again, the only time he is quiet is when the food is offered. Mike suggested that because they dewormed him and he dropped a load of parasites early last night, that he just might be hungry and that is all this is about. I have his vaporizer going and he just ate another small plate of food this morning. If the weather cooperates, MIke and I hope to be able to install his outside patio today. But right now it’s raining to beat heck.

  4. When I had Chunky Lisa sedated to look at her poor mouth (stomatitis ) she was also crazy when she got home. Frantically trying to get outside and crying to beat the band. I called the vet and he said that it’s normal in some cats to do that. Sure wish they had told me before!

Funds are very tight right now but should be able to send you a small amount after payday next Friday. Sending loads of purrayers to you and Juno.

  5. I am so sorry that you both had a rough night. I had a cat act that same way after sedation for urinary blockage. Long night. The holistic approach helped get my dog off prednisone. It is sure worth a try with Juno. I hope he settles down soon. Prayers for you both.
