A precious life
I suppose it is inevitable when you share your life with a multitude of cats that something can go wrong at any given moment no matter how careful you might be. It is because most of my cats arrive here health compromised in the first place with not very many of them having the benefit of getting mom’s milk as newborns in those first crucial hours when they need it the most.
Madison, my sweet tortise shell girl has been diagnosed with Multiple Cartilagenous Exotosis or MCE- long term shorter- cancer- inoperable and incurable the lesions she was getting on her body were alarming for us and painful for her.
Yesterday, amid tears we loaded her into a carrier to take her to the vet to release her from suffering. She had started vomitting large pools of blood with clots inside and passing bloody urine. She knew something was up and although she was weak and not at her best- when the carrier was set down by the car, she managed to get out and scoot under the house! I haven’t seen her since and I am supremely worried as I know she is in pain, but I suspect she has gone to ground and we won’t see her again.
The weather outside is cold and blowy and I am sure she is confused and scared but she hasn’t shown herself since she bolted. I don’t know what else I can do to find her as I haver looked in all the spots I believe she might be hiding at.
Tonight when I got off work, I surprised a cat eating on the porch. I had hoped it was Madison, but it is another cat one I haven’t seen here recently. This is a small kitten just under a year old and he/she is pure black.

I’m so sorry about your loss.
Getting out of a carrier is a huge fear,
I hope if it’s her time that she goes painlessly.
I hate the way these cats can just disappear, never to be seen from again.
I’m so attached to my ferals.
Speaking of which,
I would love your opinion (as you are such an expert on ferals) on a matter
of my cats.
We’ve moved, and they are not handling the confinement period well at all,
even in a large enclosure (10×6x6 with a house)
If you could email me that would be so helpful.
If not, I understand.
Wonderful Blog by the way.
