One tortie has returned

She was covered in blood! She’s been shot! It looks like it only grazed her head though. I am frantic thinking that perhaps both of the cats were being shot at (have been hearing gunshots fairly close to our home lately late at night) I am praying that Piper escaped and is just scared and hiding out. I had to run up and fetch Mike, they discharged him today and he still has both his legs!!! YAY! When we came home and pulled in the drive, I noticed the tortie laying on the step at a strange angle. I flew out of the car and picked her up and discovered she was covered in blood. I took her into the bathroom and started to gently wash her- that’s when I saw the hole. It is a round hole, not a jagged hole that teeth make. I clipped her fur around her head looking for anything else (exit wound) anything? Didn’t see a thing- after she was dried off, I had Mike take a look at her (he used to be an EMT) he said it looks like a bullet graze- he saw a lot of those in Alaska. The natives would get drunk and shoot at each other just so they could get an ambulance ride into town for more alcohol. She is eating, and I have her in one of our cages. I started her on clinidrops and called my vet- waiting to hear back.

I can’t get under the house- the space is to small, but George is going to come by and take a strong light and see if he can find her sister. Please pray she is all right!

  1. OH my God I hope she is ok, people in the world are sick. I am at a loss for words. So glad that Mike is home and still in one piece, prayers for continued healing Mike.

  2. MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOW!! 🙁 🙁 🙁 *purrrrs for you to find the other girl safe*

  3. It was indeed a bullet hole. Center shot right to the back of the head. The vet thinks it was a misfire. She is on heavy antibiotics, she is extremely anemic and we have her on pain meds. She is home now. I did some cat juggling and brought Malcolm (the once feral) black cat into the house, isolated Stryker into the catio (he never leaves his cat house anyway except to eat and use the litterpan- and put Pippi inside the main deck enclosure. She was in the house last night, but she wasn’t a happy girl.

  4. One of our neighbors shot one of our cats — Sox had only been here for a couple of days (some idiot “dumped” him here and he wound up on our deck), so we hadn’t had time to have him neutered yet. Our vet examined him, kept him overnight, gave him antibiotics. The bullet had gone through and through from hip to shoulder, but had hit no bones or organs, thank Heaven! It cost us nearly three hundred dollars to get him well plus get him neutered.

Our neighbor admitted to us months later in front of his wife that he had shot Sox, supposedly because there had been animals getting under his modular home and he just shot at anything that moved in the night. The cat was actually on our property when he shot it, but he showed no remorse, didn’t apologize, didn’t offer to share the vet expenses.

I don’t understand anyone who would shoot into trees in the night-time when they can’t really see what they’re shooting at — it could have been a person or a child or someone’s pet dog that had gotten loose… I’m sure the neighbor’s wife made him tell me that he was the shooter since I had spoken with her earlier to warn her to keep a good watch on her kids since someone had shot one of “our” cats. She, at least, had the decency to make him tell us it was he who had done it.

Hope you find Piper safe and sound and hope Pippi recovers quickly.

  5. Piper has been found. It’s to late to save her, she’s gone……..(sob)

  6. I am so very sorry. There’s nothing much I can say except I send my heart felt condolences to you for this loss.

  7. OMG..I am sooo sorry for your loss! Both shot, that was intentional. Disturbing to know just how many sick, heartless, people are out there. Glad Mike is home and doing better. Thoughts & prayers are with you.

  8. Ugh. Careless act…so hard to protect our outside cats when that crap happens. I pray she didn’t suffer. Concerned that if these 2 don’t stray far then why are people shooting towards your house. Praying for your protection and the loss.

  9. I am so sorry and angry to hear this news. People can be so heartless. Karma will get this person. I can’t express what I hope happens to him/her…..

    Hugs to you

  10. I’d take this to the sheriff’s department, if I were you. This is unbearable. I’m very sorry that this has happened at all, but especially now when so much is going on with you. Good luck to Pippi, the best of all possible luck to Mike. Godspeed, Piper.

  11. Awwww Maryanne! So terribly sorry for yet another loss! Prayers out to you and Mike! Where did you find her?

  12. Horrific. But yes, report it. You may not be the only one in the area suffering losses.

    So, so sorry.

  13. It seems that this is becoming too much to bear. I’ve always been told we’re never given more than we can handle but yikes, you are carrying quite a load right now. I am sorry this happened. Your girls didn’t bother anyone. I agree with one of the early commentors, it’s worrisome if someone is shooting at your house.

  14. I am so very sorry! This needs to be reported to the sheriff! You need a papertrail. Whoever did this may have done it to others and so near a residence is definitely against the law! RIP Piper..
