They dehydrate quickly which throws their body into shock and they basically die from shock. Once they are infected, it is quite a battle to get them to recover when they are just small kittens. As far as I know they do that before they die. They hide, won't eat nor meow. And they scream in pain when the morning chills set in... That's what happened to mine.
