“Dear God- May I have a Do-Over Please?”

This morning, the hospital called to say they were discharging Mike! I left the house at 7:00 and got to the hospital by 10:00. I had to laugh as I drove up, there were three window washers washing the windows of the children’s hospital. They were way up in the air and when I looked up at them, I did a double take. They were dressed as super heroes! Batman, Iron Man and Spiderman! What a cool thing for the sick kids to see out their windows.

I get to Mike’s room and we wait and wait and wait. Finally at 4:00 one of the vascular surgeons came in and told us that Mike couldn’t go anywhere. They had done an ultrasound of his leg late last night and they discovered a massive blood clot. It started at his ankle, went over his knee and was creeping up to his thigh! He will be on heavy meds and constant monitoring for at least two weeks.

I drove home to find my message machine blinking. The vet called and told me that Boo passed away this morning about 11:00. Apparently, she had a heart attack.

I am so sad for this blackness. She had no chance of a real life until she got into our sanctuary and I could only give her 6 months of love. I just hope it was enough for her to understand that love does exist.

  1. I’m so sorry for the loss of Boo. I lost my 14 year old little Posie a week after her dental. I was reluctant because of her age. She kept getting gum infections. She had saddle thrombosis and had a heart attack a week after surgery. She died in my arms.
We try to do the best we can and don’t know how the kitties will respond to surgery. I am more diligent about cleaning the cats mouths weekly on the cats I can handle, and I add a dental cleanser to the drinking water. It helps to reduce tartar buildup and reduces gum disease.
Your heart will mend. Boo got some loving kindness in your care.

  2. I am so sorry to hear about Boo, poor little thing. The good thing is that you were able to show her what love was and I am sure she passed away in peace to go the rainbow bridge to await seeing you again. Mike feelings are two fold, 1st is OMG a huge blood clot from the sound of it, had he been at home and if break free it would have been tragic. 2nd A blood clot that Huge and he was in the hospital when they found it. YAY! Thank God he was there and they ran an extra test and found it. The grace of God is with you both!

** not yay for the clot, yay they found it** gosh I do hope you know what I mean.

  3. Poor Boo probably received more love in the last half-year than she ever did, or ever would have if she hadn’t found you. Some animals, like some people, have to crowd a great deal into a short time. That was Boo.

I’m relieved the hospital found the clot in Mike’s leg when they did. It’s too bad they didn’t run whatever test they ran to find it before they called you. But at least he remains in good hands.
