Brave and Courageous Avis

She has been laid to rest this morning alongside her babies. The whole family was put to sleep. The vets fear distemper. This shuts us down for five to seven years now to help kittens and we can’t help the adults until they are vaccinated against distemper and put somewhere safe for 5 days for the vaccine to take effect.

I made a huge bonfire this morning and burned everything that Avis and the kittens laid on or used. Lots more cleaning and sterilizing to do- grief and mourning will come later. Her temp this morning was 105.9 and we just decided to stop being heroic and let her find peace.

  1. We are so very very sorry…..once again, a simple vaccine (and spay) could have made so much difference. At least she knew that you cared

  2. She tried so hard for her children. This is a damned shame. You did what you could, as always. Godspeed, Avis. Godspeed, her little ones.

  3. I’m so sorry. At least she had someone who fought for her, as she fought for her babies. And I know distemper is one of your biggest fears.

  4. I’m so sorry. And how awful that there are so many repercussions for trying to rescue this poor family.

  5. You said “the vets fear distemper.” Are they testing her for distemper or did they already test her?

  6. OMG, this hurts so bad, I hate to hear this, God speed Avis and babies. I do hope the vet tested and will find it negative. Oh dear Lord be with Mary Anne and embrace her with your love to bring her peace in her time of need. We all know that you need her for the kitties and can only ask that this was not distemper and she can continue with your work. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
