Hope’s hospitilization continues

They are keeping her one more day. Her temp keeps spiking and the last film still shows the suspicious mass in her belly. She was tested for all the nasties and came up negative for those (thank you God) so I have no idea what is wrong with her and apparently neither do the vets.

  1. I don’t understand why they can’t do surgery on her and remove the mass? Have you heard anything about why they can’t? Is it cancer?

I hope that Hope gets better and that this mass she has can be easily removed!

Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year

  2. Anna,

We are in a “wait and see” mode here. Sometimes, in situations such as Hope is facing. The barium is the cure! They want to give it 24 hours to let the barium do its work and perhaps remove whatever is shadowing the x-ray. Films are not conclusive and unless the object is solid, it won’t show up on a x-ray. for example if at Christmas your kitten gets into ribbon and swallows it, the shreds won’t show up on the films, but the ribbon will do a lot of damage and block things up substantially so surgery is the only option.

Since I do this out of my own pocket, I don’t have several hundred dollars to drop on a cat that I have no history with. So the vets try everything in their power to keep my costs down without endangering the cat. As it is, I am going to owe them substantial amounts as barium studies are not cheap.

The vet just called by the way and wants to see me so I am on my way now. I will log in when I get home.
