Pigeon’s Struggles Continue

He was home briefly, but a few hours ago, his skin swelled to an alarming rate and all the sutures let go andĀ  I had to rush him back to the vet’s office. They are again keeping him overnight, will do another surgery in theĀ  morning and will call me as soon as they know something beyond that. I asked the vet if it would just be better to put him to sleep, but he told me not to give up on him. Said that he has seen this type of reaction before in cats and that Pigeon has already shown a huge will to live. They have given him a pain shot and I kissed him goodbye gently. He just had a huge plate of food so they can’t do the second surgery till morning.

I don’t know what we are going to do about the cost of all of this. This is not the vet clinic that will patiently wait for little payments to come in to get rid of the vet debt. My regular vet is getting quite popular and it is hard to get in to see him on the same day so I opted for this other clinic that had an opening right away.

  1. I’ll be praying for Pigeon’s recovery.

Can you write about this on Facebook? I will share it and spread the word about funding, for what my contacts on Facebook are worth. Perhaps others can, too.

  2. I second John’s comment above; FB is a terrific place to get needed attention. Sending purrs and hugs to Pidgeon, and to all at FCB…two footed or four…Happy Valentine’s Day!

  3. It’s on facebook now. Thanks for the suggestion. Just called the clinic to get an update, but was told the vet needs to talk to me and will call me as soon as possible. Color me worried.

  4. I second that question, the cats inc. page I liked, and thought was yours, hasn’t had a new message since 2014.

  5. Thanks for finding that Janice. CATS FB has been hosed up for a long time and facebook never got back with me despite multiple attempts to contact them.

Pigeon is now home- they did yet one more surgery on him and right now he is decompressing in the bedroom. When I took him in- he was split from his paw to his rectum on his back leg (that’s how much edema was collecting) so they had to be a bit creative putting him back together. Vet wants to see him in a week unless there is no litter pan activity in 48 hours. I am praying for poop.If none appears, he goes right back to the vet.

  6. Your TCS family is sending prayers and vibes for Pigeon & you both. I posted in the Cats SOS forum.

  7. Mary Anne, I just made a donation toward Pigeon’s care via PayPal and am very hopeful that others will also help out to ease your financial and emotional burden. May Pigeon heal and return to comfort you and be comforted by you.
