We Are NOT Garbage!

Yesterday, I was chasing Craigslist ads for a friend and I stumbled upon one entitled “Pups!” I opened the ad to find myself staring full in the face with a litter of five German Shepherd puppies (about 5 weeks old).

I contacted the gal only to find out that someone had dumped this beautiful family near her farm in Canby. She couldn’t let them starve, so she brought them all in to her horse stall and fed them. She has had them for four days but couldn’t keep them because of all her other animals.

We drove out to meet them and instantly fell in love with the entire bunch. Jeanne said that the pups were so malnourished, their legs were crooked when they first arrived- but a few days of steady feeding stopped that problem.

So we decided to take two of these pups and they have been with us now for just under 8 hours and they are wonderful! Non aggressive to the cats, happy to just nap on our feet and best of all, they have gotten Mike interested in moving his feet again! It is going to be a bit of a challenge to manage them as they are not housetrained- but they love being in the house and show no indication that they are run-aways. It has also calmed Kodiak down considerably to have them here. They are not named yet, that will come in time.

On the subject of cats, Cole took a turn for the worse last night and he is now in Isolation at the vets. It is costing me a pretty penny to keep him there, but he was having major problems breathing and he was sneezing anywhere from 12-16 times in a row! The vet says he has pneumonia and because of the ringworm (that opportunistic devil) he is in Isolation, which amps up the cost of his care. 🙁

But, I have had Cole for over two years now and someone ditched him as a tiny kitten in the middle of winter in the parking lot of a local grocery store. In order to survive, he ducked underneath a local coffee hut owned by a friend of mine. She noticed this black wisp of a kitten and called me. I went down with my trap, baited it, set it place, covered it backed off and BAM! One starving kitten captured! He had managed to declaw himself on three of his pads (the vet thinks he collided with a car and was dragged.) But someone has already given up on this black beauty once- I told Mike I couldn’t give up on him too- besides, “where there is a will, there is a way!”

Well, it is early here 3:22 a.m. and I just let the dogs out into their outside pen for potty and play. Now, I need to try and get some more sleep if possible as I have to work today. But that’s okay, we need the monies…..

Peace to all and may the senseless dumping of animals end soon-
