The New Tortie Mom

Addie is now at the local shelter being cared for and treated. She started developing the worrisome signs of mastitis and I placed a quick call to the shelter explained how and when I got her and asked them, would you please take her. They said they would if she passed the RW exam which she did. She has only been here a few days and NOT inside the house. So she is on antibiotics and in their sick ward and will be available for adoption in about a week.

I am grateful, my ankle has really been bothering me again. Last night was probably the worst it has ever been. I wish they could tell me what is wrong with it, versus what isn’t wrong with it. I go back to the doctor this afternoon to formulate a plan with them about how to figure this out. It was so bad last night that the only way I could sleep was to wrap my foot up in a soft pillow secure that around my ankle. I finally fell out at about 3:00 a.m. with the pain only a dim throbbing. I wonder if I broke a bone in my foot and they missed it in the films? I don’t know. All I know is I need my foot back- there is so much that isn’t getting done right now.

The Nine are growing like weeds with no signs of active ringworm except on the biggest boy Sailor. The shelter said the culture is just now starting to grow looking suspiciously like ringworm- so we will see how it goes from there. Been so hot here- but rain is predicted tonight.

Frantic Call

Yesterday, when my phone rang it was a call I couldn’t say no to. It came from a concerned neighbor who unfortunately lives in the hunting grounds of the person committing atrocities on cats. She was deeply upset and said her neighbor who had been evicted 8 months ago, left behind an orange cat. She had seen a teenager in a hoodie hovering near where the cat hangs out and she opened her window to talk to him and he fled. She was afraid that this cat would become a victim.

So I have her, she is an older kitty, quite sweet. She was covered in some odd smelling nasty stuff along with pee and poo. She has had a bath, been to the vet and tested negative. So she is safe now in our cage on the back patio and hopefully, I will be able to find her a home. Most people really like the orange kitties. She really like ear rubs and tuna! 🙂

I am also thankful that although I couldn’t get four of our outside kitties in before the insanity called fireworks took off- they are all present and accounted for this morning. I removed three cats off the road this morning on my way to town. I hate the fourth of july-

Sometimes, the mornings don’t go as planned

This morning, I grabbed Cooper and threw the recycled bottles in the truck and headed to town to turn them in for kitty kash! 🙂 On the way to town, Cooper was staring out the window and he alerted to something. I thought it might be deer, so I slowed down. It was a kitty! A beautiful, young tortie in the weeds so near the highway, I was afraid for her. I had no carrier in the truck as it was full of bottles, so I whipped a U-turn and hustled back home, threw food and carrier in the truck and off we went again. I was praying the entire time she was still okay, approachable and safe. As I got to where I had last seen her, I noticed a car had pulled over and there were a couple out peering through the weeds. I parked next to them and asked them if she had been hit? They said no- she was in their car but she didn’t want to seem to leave and her nipples looked funny.

We searched a good 45 minutes for babies, but it was like looking for a needle in the haystack. I finally told them that I would just take her and see if she has babies. We put her into the carrier and I drove home.

She is uber-friendly although she has the typical tortie attitude, I am calling her Addie. I checked her belly, and yes she has had kittens recently, but she is almost out of milk and there are no noticeable wear marks around the teats. I took her back to the place where I found her and said a prayer and let her out of the truck but she just laid in the weeds and purred. I think she was dumped and they kept the kittens. That is what she reminds me of- she shows none of the typical signs or motherhood, when I brought her home and put her in the deck enclosure, she didn’t scream and cry or pace and try to get out of Dodge. I’ve had this situation plenty of times before and the ones who are actively nursing will fight tooth and nail to get back outside, back to their babies. She just wants to lay on the floor and purr.

With the fourth coming up, the asshole who is killing cats and the hot weather- at least she is safe and sound and won’t come to harm.
