Shelter Update

Four of the kittens I surrendered to the shelter have now been adopted! They told me Lexi almost flew out of the room, she was adopted so quickly. Abitha is still there, she is so shy. I told them if she doesn’t get adopted by the middle of Feb. I would take her back. I dropped off the two tortie sisters: Tansy and Spice tonight and got to visit a bit with Abitha. There was a couple there looking at her, and I told them that she is really a sweet girl, but I was afraid captivity was setting her back a bit. I did pick up Abitha while I was there and they were watching closely. She snuggled into my neck for about a half a second then she wanted back with her friends. I do hope they decided to adopt her.

This leaves me with just the two orange girls. There is a family in Washington discussing whether or not to adopt both of them. The woman has twin teenage  girls. It sounds like a good match. Once they leave- I’ll just have mom left. Glacie has a family looking at her with great interest. And the calico girls have a deposit down on them.

On Sunday, I checked their page again and to my surprise there are only three kitties left for adoption! Lego, Marbles and Nutmeg! Hopefully, they will find their loving forever homes soon enough.

Catching a feral cat-

This morning while in the barn, I noticed that Dickens one of the early escape artists was up on the rafters. He was swearing at me, but I pretended not to notice and went about my business laying our food and water for the cats.

He didn’t like being ignored and started creeping across the rafters, jumped down on the hay bales and landed right next to me! I happened to have a towel wrapped around my neck, so I carefully removed it, went over to pet him though he was still swearing- and I dropped the towel over him, snatched him up and had a front-loader carrier nearby where he was deposited. He is now at the vet losing his manhood. 🙂

Mike is being transferred to a “rehabilitation center” nearby. His healing is “Miraculous” according to one surgeon. They keep making a cast around the incision site and every morning when they get him out of bed the swelling is so reduced the cast falls off and crashes to the ground!

Afterwards

I have been doing a lot of sleeping. I sit down in my chair and the next thing I know 4-6 hours have passed and I wake up. I guess everything is catching up to me now. In between my sleeping episodes, kittens are being adopted. Glacie, Pumpkin and Autumn have all been pre-adopted. The families won’t get the kittens until after the 23rd and the spays, but the homes are wonderful and the people are so excited about the adoptions.  I could have adopted out the calico sisters four times already that’s how much interest there is in them. But the home I chose, there are no small kids, no other pets, a retired couple and it is out in the country so if they do get outside, there are no busy roads nearby for them to get in trouble. The couple is going to put a cat-proof fence around part of their acreage so the girls can go outside and stay safe.

This leaves us with the tortie sisters and mom. I’ll probably end up taking the tortie girls to the shelter I am working with depending on how long the current kittens there will stay there before getting adopted. Because in this area, most people think torties are ugly!

Six more kitties to the shelter today

Lexi, Percy, Lego, Nutmeg, Pigeon, Lunar and Ledi all went to the shelter today. For some reason Abitha’s home wasn’t approved so she is still there. But she can go in with her brothers and sisters and maybe get adopted to the right home.

So now, there are only 6 kittens left in the bedroom and tonight a really nice couple came by and pre-adopted the two calico girls! I have a family coming tomorrow to look at the orange girls (Pumpkin and Autumn and another gal interested in Glacie. So we will see how it all goes.

I have a huge bruise on my shoulder and arm. I stopped at a restaurant to use their bathroom, and I was at the sink. I took off my jacket and was looking at the bruise on my arm and this elderly woman walked in the door. She gasped when she saw this bruise then she smiled at me and went in a stall. I was still there when she came out and as she washing her hands, I was trying to slip into my coat. She gently grabbed my good arm and said “Honey, can I give you some advice?”  I told her “Sure, go ahead.”

She looked me square in the face and said: “You need to leave that bastard!” LOL

I told her it was a car wreck and not an abusive mate and thanked her for the concern.

Your Prayers were in play today

Hey Guys,

Back from the hospital earlier than planned. Mike is doing okay. He was in surgery for 7 hours because of the Venus statis (he bled a lot from his leg) but they finally got it under control. They ended up taking the leg mid-calf and he has a nice stomping cast on now so they can get him out of bed. He is on some pretty heavy pain meds and has a pain button he can push when things get a bit out of control for him. He kept saying his toes were cold, but the doctor this is “phantom pain” the brain hasn’t reconciled that some of the leg is missing and I guess in time, it does pass. They have a catheter going into his hip which is where the pain meds are being shot into. (Dilaudid and Morphine) he was a happy loopy boy when I left him. The doctor told me they weighed his foot after they took it and it weighed 80 pounds! Said it was from all the fluid retention and blood.

I had a bit of a problem this morning on the way to the hospital. I didn’t get much sleep the night before. The hospital kept calling and changing the time of his surgery. Their last call was at 11:00 p.m. so I was a bit stressed. Tossed and turned most of the night and couldn’t sleep- I ended up maybe getting two hours sleep max.

I decided NOT to take the freeway (thank God for that decision) I also dropped Brandy off at a friend’s house. Usually she goes with me but not this time. I was driving on a back road between Silverton and Mt. Angel and my head felt funny. Next thing I knew, I had drifted off the road- I had fallen asleep while driving something that has NEVER happened to me before. All I remember is waking up screaming because I was off the road and in a ditch still going forward. Thankfully, I wasn’t going fast- maybe 20 mph? It was farmland and there was a really stout fence that some rancher had put up for his horses. I think the cops told me I hit 10 of those posts and they didn’t break. But my driver window broke, the passenger window on the driver’s side broke. I was pumping the brakes but my car wasn’t responding. The fence kept me going straight in the ditch and ahead of me, I could see this massive stop sign and I knew I was going to hit it. But my car stopped just inches from slamming into that stop sign. I tried to get out but my door wouldn’t open. I hit the OnStar Emergency Roadside button and this really nice lady came on and calmed me down and call the rescue squad. They couldn’t get my door open and they were afraid to ask me to climb over the console and exit the passenger front door, so they just heaved on the sucker until it finally opened. They wouldn’t let me get out. I wanted to just get away. My shoulder was throbbing but I had my seatbelt on and I was going slow enough my airbags did not deploy. Had I hit the stop sign, they would have probably gone off. The cops were so nice so were the paramedics- they finally let me get out of the car and stand up with help. My God I was shaking. My blood pressure was 160/119 which they said later was pretty normal under the circumstances. My car had 3 flats and it was basically totaled. I had hit a large boulder and that crumpled the top of the wheel well of the car down into the rear tire causing that tire to go flat. The ONLY thing that saved me was God and that fence. It kept me going straight instead of shooting  me either into the field and possibly hitting the livestock there. Or sending me back into the highway. I declined to get into the ambulance, I told them I was going to a hospital anyway and the ER was just a few steps away should something happen. They examined and said that I proabably will have some massive bruising on my arm my left arm hit the side of the door and the window sometime in the chaos. They all hugged me and told I was lucky to escape with such minor injuries. Wish my car could say the same thing.

There was a lady behind me who saw the whole thing and stopped. She had just dropped her kids off at the school that I had just passed. Another blessing this didn’t happen so near the school. When she heard where I was going- she drove me to the hospital going 2.5 hours out of her way to do so! I tried to give her gas money, but she wouldn’t hear of it. She was an angel. No police report was taken, no tickets issued- everybody was just concerned for me and said if my shoulder swells up more than it is now, or my fingers start to tingle, I was to seek ER help immediately. But again, I just have a lot of bruising on my arm and shoulder nothing broke or even got cut on the glass. I got to the hospital 15 minutes before they came to take Mike to surgery. I was late and he wanted to know why and I told him. He was just grateful that I was okay-

I talked to our insurance company I am covered on all aspects. I can get a rental car for $35.00 a day not to exceed $2,500.00 for the time I drive it. Right now, I don’t want to drive anything. We still have Mike’s truck so I do have access to transportation if something should happen and I need to get to the hospital, but other than that, I think I am going to stay home for a few days. I keep having flashbacks of the accident. Two of Mike’s doctors kept a close eye on me this morning and the nurses kept coming in to take my vitals. When I left the hospital (a friend came to pick me up) my BP was 140/90  The doctors said that proabably for the next few days, my BP will be a bit erratic and my heart will make itself known by pounding a bit. It’s just what happens when you are in an accident. I told Mike I was sorry for falling asleep at the wheel. It’s weird though, because I didn’t even feel that sleepy and all of a sudden I am ditch bound. The tow truck driver said my car is pretty much totaled even though it does start.

But I am OKAY just a bit sore. Mike is OKAY if just a bit loopy. I don’t even know if he remembers that I came to see him after the surgery. But now I am home and not anxious to go anywhere. I have 5 akitties leaving for adoptions tomorrow-  I called one of my volunteers to come and pick up the kittens and do the trip for me. I just don’t feel like driving. I do feel, very lucky. I was leaning against one of the those stout fenceposts waiting for the paramedics to fill out the right of refusal for medical care- and I feel this hot breath on my neck. I slowly turned around and here is this beautiful Bay looking at me like “Are you okay?”  I scratched her head and she bent her head and put it on my right shoulder which didn’t get injured and gave me a horse hug. I needed that-

Mike will be in the hospital for awhile. I will let you know how he is doing in a few days.

Right now I am headed for a hot shower and a couple of Tylenol. God Bless George, he came and picked me up and drove me home.  Then he went over and got Brandy for me.

Goodbye Sweet Boy

01manny

Manchester died today. He got hit by a car and didn’t survive the impact. I don’t know what he was doing out on the road- but the fog was thick and he didn’t have a chance to cross the road safely.  I’m sorry sweet boy. I will miss you weaving in between my legs when I am walking outside. I wish you had liked the inside kitties and I could have kept you away from any danger. Thank you for blessing our lives-

Mike’s surgery will be performed tomorrow. At first they called and said they would do it last in the day, then they just called and said they will do it earlier. I will be up there for three days then I have to come home and tend to the kitties. Please keep Mike in your prayers tomorrow-

God Bless You All- Hug your kitties extra hard tonight in tribute to Manchester-

Thank you “Nameless One”

Someone sent my kitties a Christmas Stocking full of kitty toys!  Thank you whoever you are. These guys are so busy pulling my clothes down off their hangers, it is nice to have something else to distract their new hobby! LOL  I have clothes laying all over the house because I know if I hang them up, they will just end up back on the floor. 11 kittens equals destruction plus! LOL

Four kittens adopted from the shelter!

I just called the shelter where I left the five kittens and four of them have been adopted! Two of them went to the same home! YAY! Left behind is sweet Abitha, she is so shy, I can imagine she wouldn’t be scooped up right away. Hopefully soon though.

Here is Abitha01fearsomefoursome

The shelter just called, they want five more kittens! They will work with me on the payment for the spays/neuters. They said my kittens are so friendly and loving. They put them in a rollaway cage in the lobby and apparently the kittens were a big hit. Abitha was adopted out tonight!!!!

Mike has been admitted

I wish I could tell you  guys for sure when the surgery will be performed, but his leg has been really bad the last few days and when we got to the hospital and they unwrapped it- well, it wasn’t pretty. They are fearing a blood infection (but they have said this countless times before and it never turns out to actually be a blood infection- just some other type). The doctor did say that IF it was a blood infection and it got into the bone they would have to take the leg at the hip. If this again turns out not to be the case, they are looking at mid calf but really won’t know until they get in there and assess the damage. They initially had him set up to do surgery on Thursday, but one look and sniff at the bad leg turned those plans sour.

They said they will give me a day’s notice. I will be up there two days post-op and then will have to come home again. Surgery will either be Friday-Saturday or Monday. I would love to get up there more during his stay, but it just isn’t financially possible or feasible to do so. Everything hinges on his leg and how the leg responds to treatment. If they take the leg in a swollen state (which they would never do) it wouldn’t go well for the surgeons or the patient.  They have to let the leg rest, lose the swelling the redness and in the meantime they are doing tests to find out what is infected at this time. They triple bagged his therapy boot because of the stench and even though this came home in the trunk of my car, my whole car reeks now. I left the windows down hoping a feral cat might go in and spray and make it smell better! 🙂

So I really can’t tell you guys any more than this. He is pretty tired right now and I just talked to him. He was waiting for them to come in and wrap his leg so he can eat his dinner and go to sleep. He has his computer with him, his new MahJong game he got for Christmas and some books. I think he will be in longer than the “expected” 6 days- but we will just see how it goes.

I don’t know what is going to happen from here. All I can do is pray that God’s hands will guide theirs and He will in charge of the whole production. I’ll be in touch when I know more.

Love you guys- thanks for any prayer support you can manage for him-

Update on Michael

He will go to the hospital tomorrow morning to be admitted. They will do a 3-4 day prep on his leg to reduce the swelling, improve circulation and get the skin in good shape so they can amputate it. After that, there will be no telling what is going to happen so please keep us in your prayers. I am dropping B-Dog off at a friend’s house for the duration and George and Haley will be helping me out with the kitties. I tried calling the animal shelter today to see how our five kittens were getting along, but they are closed on Monday. I hope they have made the adjustment to cage living by now. I still need to cover the spays and neuters by the end of this month, but right now, I can’t seem to get my mind wrapped around to much. There is to much distraction in my head at the moment.  I will say his foot is swollen more than ever before and there is a second ulcer starting near the first one. So it is high time we act and get rid of this darn leg.
