The Last Rescue for 2016 (I hope!)

This little girl just arrived this morning. She was found lying by the side of a road notorious for being a dumping ground for dogs and cats. Although cars were speeding by her- one did stop and picked her up and brought her home. My feline specialist contacted me about her and asked if I could take her and I went to pick her up this morning. She was found Saturday morning. I took her to the vet and when we took her out of the carrier for the first time- I almost wept. She is bone skinny. She was loaded with fleas and parasites and she doesn’t have a manx tail, but she doesn’t have a full-length tail either. I did take some photos of her- but tomorrow morning Midge will be over to take good photos and I will post them then.

She is a cow kitty about 4 years old but she almost has calico in her- really pretty girl. She is quite sick- although she came out of the tests okay- all of her lymph nodes are swollen over what they should be and part of her tummy protrudes more than the other side (possible FIP) I have been ordered to give her groceries, TLC and monitor her for two weeks to see if the lymph nodes go down. If they do great- if not, she has to go back for bloodwork. I know the vet is thinking the “C” word. She also may have asthma as her breathing is labored but her heart sounds good. So we don’t know exactly what is wrong with her but time is on our side.

Also wanted to share this with you all (not my finest moment). I recently ordered from Chewy.com and got my order just fine- but in the time that it was made and shipped, I was getting countless emails from them daily. It was ridiculous. Two days ago, I finally decided I had enough and I emailed them a very nasty email. Not like me at all. I instantly got a reply from a very sweet customer service agent and the emails stopped.

Thinking about it later, I realized that I had used Chewy.com as a catalyst for all my grief and frustration: Mike’s leg, Cooper losing his, my mother being so close to death. losing Mercedes- all of it and I was so ashamed of myself. I emailed the woman back and apologized and told her why I believe I blew up so unprofessionally. She sent me back a very empathetic email and said she understood why it happened. She said someone at Chewy.com is available 24/7 if I just needed to talk to someone.

A few minutes ago, the doorbell rings and as I opened the door, I am just praying that it isn’t someone with a cat. It wasn’t it was Fed Ex with a bouquet of flowers and a note for me from Chewy.com!

Misti has a home-

Turns out her name is Ursula and she was rescued by another local group here in town. She has been returned to her foster home and I hope she finds a home soon because she is quite sweet and loving. She just doesn’t like other cats- She fell in love with Mike’s lap but he already has two lap cats and war was imminent. I had to put her out in an enclosure by herself before battles started erupting. Her foster dad said that is why he thought she got out and left because she isn’t the only cat in the house.  This is Misti on Mike’s lap01misti

More Good Mews! I hope!

Yesterday, we took in yet another cat- the last one for the year. She is a really sweet mack tabby and I just got back from the vet where I took her to be scanned for a microchip (I know a long-shot) and to see if she has a spay scar or is pregnant. She has a chip! It traces back to a humane shelter in another county and I am just waiting for the noon hour to call them and find out where her owner is located and return her back to her rightful owner (if they still want her) In the past, sometimes when they are chipped, we find out the owner no longer is interested in them. I think in this case, she would have to be returned to the shelter which is a shame because right now they are over the limit in cats and kittens. But hopefully, her owner will be found and there will be a sweet reunion at the end of the day. I will let you know. We found her in the fog so we call her Misty.

Hamilton

I just got the best and coolest phone call ever! Most of you remember that I accidentally left the cat enclosure door open back in late August. What I didn’t tell you is that the very next day, I discovered that Hamilton wasn’t inside his enclosure and I had found where he had tunneled out under the gravel and straw. Most of the time when a cat escapes, the cat hangs around here and either ducks under the buildings or the decks or what have you- but Hamilton was no where to be found. I was really worried about him, getting up at all the hours of the night to see if he was at any of the feeders- nope- no sign.

Tonight, the lady who had been feeding Hamilton for two years until he got injured and she turned him over to us called me. When she said who she was, I was thinking “uh oh, how can I tell her that I lost him?” One of her last requests before I drove off with  him was that she wanted to see him before he was adopted!

She said “Mary Anne do you remember me? You picked up Persnickity Kitty from me.” That was her name for him.

I said- “Yes, I remember you.” Then I waited for the next question which surprised me:

“Do you still have him?”

I told her I was sorry but  no that he had escaped. Then she said “He’s here! He arrived this morning and I thought I was seeing things but it’s him!”

This lady lives 10 miles from us! This kitty really traveled to get back to where he had to go. Apparently, he doesn’t want to be adopted into another home- he wants to stay where he is comfortable. I am so relieved and amazed because this kitty had to go through the narrows (a series of hills that flank the town) he had to cross the highway several times, travel over railroad tracks and then through the town itself. I was trying to see if someone had found him on lost pets of Sweet Home but he never showed up and now he is with Kim. I told her to give him a big steak dinner and  a bigger hug! I am so glad he is safe and I know she loves him. Now that he is healthy- I am hoping he has  good long life in front of him. Praise God!

And her daughter Shimmer

I was told they are feral but they are not. I was rubbing three bellies last night and they were all lovin it!

Here is a better shot of Shimmer and yes, she loves belly rubs-

Abandoned in a building

This morning an officer called me from another county. She had been on a call and found a mom and two kittens in the building. The building is slated to be demolished next week and she had no idea what to do with the “feral cat and kittens.”  I said we would take them.

They are getting ready to go to the vet in about 20 minutes. They are no feral- just scared, hungry and sick. Mom has a fever of 103.7 and I gave her fluids. The babies are a little warm but not alarming. They are beautiful! Mom is a cow kitty and her two little ones consist of a calico and a male Siamese. No names yet- just want to get them to the vet and find out why mom is spiking a temp. I was concerned when I picked them up- they were inside a carrier and I went to support the bottom with my hand because it was so heavy and that’s when I felt the heat. I knew we were in trouble then and I raced home to get them someplace cooler where we could care for them. Also mom is pregnant- her babies are probably 4 months old I am guessing.

I will post pictures later and give an update when I get back from the vet. I am just taking them with me along with Cooper who is scheduled to get his stitches out today. YAY! Then he can go back to being a more active dog rather than having to stay inside all the time and take it easy.

They are staying at the vet- both the kittens will be spayed tomorrow as well as the queen who is indeed pregnant. Beautiful family- hoping one of the vet techs fall in love with the Siamese boy and takes him  home.

“Quinn”

That’s the name I gave to the new baby, but sadly he won’t be around to grow into it. he died early this morning at the ER Vet where I rushed him to yesterday after he was struggling to breathe. They believe he had pneumonia and it was to hard on his heart to continue the struggle. 🙁  RIP Little One- you were loved a lot in a very little time frame.

Back from the vet-

she has soft tissue damage to her back legs. Not sure what happened but she has been given a depo shot and they flea treated her as well because she has an allergy to the fleas.

When I got home, this was waiting for me on the porch! Thankfully, it is only 78 degrees today- any hotter- this little boy wouldn’t have probably made it. He was inside a shoebox. 🙁 Mike was home but he said no one rang the bell-

Kitty is quite weak and crawling with fleas- this is him after his bath.
