I am sad (but not surprised) to learn that Gabriel died on Saturday. Dr. Steve said when he gets some free time, he will take a look around and try to find out why all the kittens died.

It’s Nice to be Loved….
Here is Solo and Serena and me checking out the action of the outside bird feeders.

I also heard from Ron- the new owner of Calico and Calico slept with him last night, but when he went to pet her in the middle of the night, she bit him- which is what she does until she gets used to someone. She bit me 8 times before she accepted me. it is not a hard bite, just a brief warning.
One out and another in- went and got Jordan back from her adopted family. Her owners are now certified fire jumpers and will be away from home on call. They couldn’t find anyone to watch her while they were gone so they called me and asked if I would take them back. My friend Angie has her at her home, because I am just to full up at the moment-
Calico Finds a Home!
Tonight, Calico was placed with her new owner. a very nice retired logger/truck driver by the name of Ron. He is 50 years old, recently retired and ready to hit the road in his motor home to see America and he wants a companion along. I told him if he needs me to train Callie to accept a harness, I would be happy to do so. He will be getting her microchipped before the trip but they took to each other right away and she doesn’t have to live in the tri-level cage any longer.
I am sad though, saying goodbye to her was like losing Daddy all over again-

The Last Burn Pile Kitty
Gabriel has been given a pass! The vet just called and asked that I surrender Gabriel to them and they will treat him with fluids, antibiotics and other measures to see if they can get the diarrhea under control and make him better! And if he does survive, there is a vet tech standing in waiting to give him a new home!
The fecal came back negative. They are keeping him in isolation and treating him with drugs and fluids. If this is indeed an illness and not genetic, then this kitten has a chance to have a long- normal life. Here’s hoping!
The Kitten Survived the Night
I cannot call the kitten Miracle however, because (picture my face red) SHE is actually a HE and Miracle doesn’t fit for a boy kitty. But he is alive this morning, but very lethargic so he isn’t out of the woods quite yet. Let’s hope the vet supplies the answer of what is going on today
Sad, tearful day
Clara, the smallest of the burn pile kitties has passed away. Her sister Amelia is now at the vet in Isolation. Please send good thoughts, prayers, money whatever you can send my way to allow us to find the answer as to why these cuties are dying. I will keep you informed as soon as I know something. I can’t burn a candle today in the window, but there is one burning in my heart for her- poor girl
9:52 p.m. If Amelia makes it through the night, in the morning, her name will be changed to Miracle…..
Senate Bill 6
Is now on the Governer’s desk waiting to be signed into law. I have already been notified by three stellar (small) cat rescuers who have officially shut their doors due to the quick passage of this bill. I am amazed at how this flew through legislation-
But They Look so Innocent!
To be responsible for such room-wide destruction and chaos! These are only three of the 12 guilty ones who destroyed our bedroom last night! I went in there this morning and the door was blocked shut. Thankfully, we have three doors to our master bedroom and I was able to gain access and then wished I hadn’t bothered! Furniture was upended, clothes scattered, socks were everywhere. I am at fault- because I was so tired last night, instead of putting our clothes away, I left them in a pile on the bed. Guess the kitties thought mom needed help in putting away the clothes. Only problem is now I have to wash them all over again.
Clara and Amelia managed to escape from yet another cage, so I had to put them in a carrier. They are not happy- but at least they are safe as the motherless kittens are growing so fast and finding their testosterone and moxy. The carrier is big enough for our shepherd so hopefully, the two kittens will adjust to it soon.
They go back to the vet today for a recheck. I am concerned with the fact that they don’t really have a voice (smoke inhalation?) and they both are still chuffing especially after they eat. I have concerns about their poop but that could just be worms- so will let Dr. Steve figure it all out.

Let it please be known…
Recently, both neighbors on each side of me have lost their spouses to death. One home has recently sold and today I was told by the previous owner that the new owner is a cat-hater. He has told her (and yes I know this is heresay- but he has told her that if he sees any cat in his yard, he will shoot it!) I have five cats who roam our acres, hunt mice in the barn and they can come inside, but they don’t get along with the others. I can’t confine them to the house if I do, they spray but if they can go outside, they won’t spray.
I have called the sheriffs department and i have been informed that shooting or harming animals is illegal in this county but I would need to prove that this man had done so.
My hope is the guy is just a blowhard and he talks tough. Hopefully, once he moves in, I will be able to go over and talk to him nicely to see what I can do to rectify the situation, but he used to be a former neighbor and I had a run-in with him on the treatment of his horses (that I disagreed with) so I don’t know-
All of a sudden, I just find myself wishing we could move and find a private place away from all other people.
On the kitty front- the three cats who were upstairs are now in my husband’s shop and they appear to be a lot happier out there. No one has stepped up to adopt Calico and I don’t suspect they will until after the holiday is over. The two kittens; Clara and Amelia are doing better since being pulled out of the burn pile and they are eating and playing like normal 4 week old kittens- although they are still so painfully thin.
Jedi’s biopsy results are in and the lumps were not cancerous (thank you God) and she is has healed and is with the others as well. We are thinking of keeping her because she is so special.
It is oppressively hot here- as it over most of the country and we are just parked under the fans trying to stay cool.
That pretty much catches up the kitty news around here. Roscoe goes in to be neutered in mid-July and then he is off to his new home-
Oregon Bill being pushed through penalizes small rescues
Regarding opposition to Senate Bill 06:
Senate Bill 06 affects and imposes Draconian restrictions upon all small rescues in Oregon. None were consulted about the effects of this bill or asked for input yet they must live with the consequences. The bill is poorly drafted, costly and fails to achieve its purpose.
These are some of the objections:
• Under the guise of providing modest accountability, this bill grants unfettered police powers to enforcement agencies to search and inspect the private property of rescues, often their homes and homes of foster families, without the need to show probable cause. That violation of civil rights lends itself to broad abuse and is incompatible with Oregon’s democratic values.
• An entire group, private rescue, is presumed guilty and placed under close surveillance as if they were scofflaws. There is no evidence to support that prejudice.
• The cases used to buttress the need for legislation don’t fit the bill’s provisions. Alicia Inglish’s case was not about a small animal rescue but about long-standing criminality. The existing system worked. Complaints were filed, a warrant was issued and the dogs were seized in accordance with animal neglect and abuse laws that are already in place.
• Animal neglect and abuse laws already in place work effectively. Why target an entire group of small rescues, stripping them of many basic rights, when enforcement of existing laws can be effective?
• The base rate for failed abusive rescues is incredibly low. A law focusing on all rescues is not needed.
• The effect of this bill will be the loss of support of small rescues critical to saving companion animal lives in Oregon. They were not consulted; or included in the development of this bill yet it singularly negatively affects them.
New additions to SB 06
SECTION 12. { + This 2013 Act being necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an
emergency is declared to exist, and this 2013 Act takes effect on
its passage. +
They’ve changed the bill, again, adding this to the end, changed section 10 and added 11, which describes lots of civil penalties, rescues can be given. .
