Did you know she could purr?

I sure didn’t, but this morning she met me at the door just purring up a storm. Her purr is a bit wet sounding right now, but she still is fighting her URI so perhaps that is why.

Her appetite is back in fine style and she devoured her food and then asked for more.

Although her tongue does show up periodically, for the most part now, it stays tucked inside her mouth where it belongs.

Her auction has started and there are already bids on some of the items. If I am understanding the organizers of this event, more items will be introduced either daily or through the coming week.

I think that is why she chose today to purr- she is thanking everyone for taking her into their heart!

  1. Had to have my daily dose of precious Miss Shell. Soooo happy at how she is doing!! Thanks so so much for all you are doing for this most special kitty-and YOU are a most special Mom for taking such good care of her!

  2. I was so touched by Miss Shell’s story and what a fighter she is. Cats truly have 9 lives. Thank you for loving and taking such great care of this very special kitty.

  3. Oh shoot, we think mom might be in love with Shell! She keeps saying stuff like “oh, wow, that’s wonderful” and “look at how beautiful she is”…it’s okay tho, we think she’s purrty speshul too. And dat yoo is a wunnerful kitty mom!

  4. A little bit of progress everyday…that’s the way to go, Shell!!!

When I brought home my cat, Butterball, from the shelter, he was very sick (though not near as bad as Shell) with a terrible URI, conjunctivitus, ear mites and worms. He was such a gentle sweetheart and twice a day I would have to grab him to give him his yucky meds, smear jelly like stuff in his eyes, drop cold drops into his ears and nose. He just stayed under my bed for days…and…he never purred. I asked my vet and she said I needed to spend more time just with him (I had also adopted a 6 month old kitten at the same time who, as kittens will do, took most of my time just making sure he wasn’t getting into any trouble). So, I closed the kitten off in a room and twice a day I would sit with Butterball on the floor and brush him and talk to him. In two days he jumped on the bed with me and started purring! Oh, what a wonderful sound.

So, so happy for you and Shell.

  5. Have you heard of United Animal Nations? A great organization that provides small “lifeline” grants to animals in need, to help with vet bills, that are victims of abuse and/or negect who are rescued by good samaritans. I can’t think of a more derserving pair than you and Shell ! Check them out at uan.org/lifeline

  6. It is Shell who took OUR hearts. What a beautiful fighting spirit she has and what a blessing that she found you to help her fight for the life she deserves. Love and prayers to all of your family from Mississippi.

  7. Good job Shell purring for your auction. We are so glad to hear such great progress every day. She certainly is doing really well. We will keep the purrs coming for you Shell. Going to go look and see what we can buy.
