There’s One Less Tonight

Totem is now gone. He went so fast we are still unsure what happened. Fever 108 and climbing-vomiting bile, pooping green stool with mucous all pointing to the liver shutting down. At only two months old it is baffling and I feel so out-of-sorts. I told the vet it was like he fell off a 30 foot cliff because he was fine yesterday.

He is now in the company of angels and Mike and I are both trying to work through the loss of such a special, wonderful kitty.

  1. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Totem was loved and he was called home for a reason. You will see him again.

  2. Oh no. I’m so sorry. Kittens can be so fragile even when they appear strong. May you be comforted by the smiles and love he brought in such a short time.

  3. I’m sorry about Totem. It’s good that if he had to die at such a young age that he did so having been brought to a good home by good people. He knew affection before the end.

  4. What a devastating loss! I am so sorry. He was a very bright light that went out way too soon. He will be waiting for you (with Shell) at the bridge.

  5. Would an autopsy show anything that would help find out what happened so you can look for it next time?

  6. Animals Reincarnate, just like we do, but more often because their lives, like this kitten’s, are often much shorter than ours. I know of three instances where lost or missing or dead animals have Reincarnated at another time in my life. They do this if their allotted time with you is not completed. One Reincarnated about 25 years later. Another, four years later. In fact, that cat is the one with the feline hyperesthesia. I’ve had ten wonderful years with her.

So Reincarnation happens a lot, and may happen with this kitten. Often they come back similar. Judicious Kisses came back darker striped, and with slightly longer legs–which she loves–she loves to climb anything. The give-away were her vestige gold eyes, all the other kittens in her litter had green eyes, she had gold, just like before. And her whimsical expression–that’s how I knew it was the same cat. So when you lose a beloved pet, be on the lookout for that animal to return to you. Sometimes you need to wait and bide your time. For example a Black Lab might come back a Chocolate Lab offered to you by an acquaintance. A friend of mine’s cat who disappeared suddenly came back the same white longhaired cat, with a single black spot on her forehead. So we knew how she died–my friends neighbors shot her in the head. That’s right, a lot of markings are indications from the past, and we knew her neighbors didn’t like her cat. It gave us some closure because at least we knew she wasn’t living in the wild somewhere. Regarding Totem, she may come back in another litter, and may be sick again, but this time she’ll survive, with care from you. After reading what happened again, I think she was very sick at birth, but showed no signs, so this was unavoidable. If your connection with her was strong, more than likely she’ll return to you. I hope you have her a long time then. Take care. Amelia
