An Early Christmas Blessing~

This morning as I was sitting on the floor and dishing out food for Jordan and Drama, they both poked their noses out from under the bed. I simply ignored them and continued on doing my thing. Slowly, Jordan- the female siamese who arrived here Nov.11, came and crawled in my lap and headbumped me! Not to be outdone, Drama crawled on my lap, crawled up my chest and stood on my shoulder! Thank God they are both just kittens! We had a pet-fest and I was smiling and thanking God the entire time.

  1. I got blessed today too because the 2 month old kitten i just capturrd 3 days ago let me pet him! At first he was scared but then his little motor got going and he even turned over so i could rub his tummy. Plus one if the one year old cats let me hold her for almost a half hour and the tabby whose always stays hidden from me suprised me when i looked over to my side and she was sitting in the middle of thr floor looking at me. Whoever said feral cats cant be socialzed are completelty wrong. All it takes is love and patience. I just pray that i can get these girls spaid soon before the place im keeping them is no longer available. Not many vets in des moines will work with feral cats.

  2. Meggen,

Start by changing the mind-set. I have been rescuing over thirty five years. In that time, I have only met four “truly” feral cats. Sadly, three had to be euthanized due to severe aggression. One escaped and I never saw her again, but we called her the Queen Mother (she was an older calico) She planted herself upstairs and would not let anyone up the stairs- and I mean anyone! Not even our Rottie at the time. She would charge you from the top of the landing and she meant business!

I tell as many people as I can that these cats are survivors, They are strays with feral tendencies. I refer to movies about people wrecked on deserted islands Castaway, Robinson Curosoe, Lord of the Flies and how the people change just to survive. If I took my most contented house cat and threw her outside- denied her water, food and affection, in two weeks she would be turning “feral.” It is a survival tactic and nothing more. They aren’t tigers for pete’s sake, they are the forgotten, the cast offs, the disposable pets (sadly) They can be socialized no matter what age. I hope you find a vet who understands this-
