Guess it is time to retire!

I took “Maggie” to the vet today to get her checked out. Oops! name change- Maggie is now Muggles because she is a he! I don’t usually get it wrong when they are older- I do when they are newborns- but I was told she was a girl and I never checked! Thank God he is neutered! no chip- so he is up for adoption today. The family that wanted “her” no longer wants “him” because they say all males spray…sigh

But there is a home for him and I will find it. Kira goes to get spayed tomorrow and there are 6 families wanting her! The remaining Siamese kittens go in on Monday and hopefully that will be the end of the neuters!

  1. Aren’t any of the people wanting a female cat willing to pay for the spaying? I can’t understand why they wouldn’t pony up to at least help with that expense, or do you charge a fee for adoption?

  2. As bad as it sounds, most people don’t spay. I just “lectured” a college student who called me about Mugs. He said it was unfortunate that someone didn’t let this cat stay intact! I don’t think he liked my lecture- LOL

I do charge for adoptions but right now with the economy in the tank it is on a donation basis only. Any monies i get go on my vet bill- that is just the way of it. I know that the powers to be in Washington say the economy has picked up- but not around here. Thankfully with all the recent adoptions, my vet bill has gone down a bit. I used to charge a flat fee but stopped that about three years ago when people were facing hard times.

  3. The family that thinks all males spray don’t know much about cats, do they?

And as for the economy… Politicians always say it’s picking up; it’s how they justify giving themselves another raise. It’s the same here in Canada.

  4. I don’t understand why people get so hung up on gender.

I do have to say, I had something similar with my Spud. A neighbor found him, said it was a girl, and since I was more concerned about negative test results, I didn’t check. The vet comes in the room with the kitten in one hand and the snap test in the other, a concerned look on his face. I am FREAKING out. He asks if I have issues if the kitten is male, not female. I told him I didn’t care if the kitten was a puppy, so long as the test was negative (the results took another couple of minutes).
