Another farewell

Reed crashed last night and before I could get him to the vet, he died. I was afraid this would happen as the food I tried to gently place in his mouth, time and again was just rejected. With his gums so pale yellow- the liver was to far gone and he couldn’t travel back to the place of wellness. That is the danger of feline hypatic lipidosis- once the body starts to feed on itself- once the cat has starved himself or been deprived of food long enough- the path back from that is never easy.

I tire of saying goodbye to these beautiful animals. For having them such a brief time and then in a blink of an eye they are gone.

Yes, he knew love, warmth, security and gentle pets before he left but had someone cared enough to research a flea product before using it on him- he would still be enjoying his life-

  1. Some of them don’t have much of a chance. Reed’s end was the result of ignorance, which seems to kill more life than does evil.

  2. My friend used an over the counter flea powder on her cat several months ago. She has lost most of her hair on the inside and back side of the legs. Poor thing looks plucked. Fortunately she is eating and seems healthy, but after reading about Reed I want to make sure that she researches any flea medicine. Also a trip to the vet will be recommended.

Any recommendations on natural flea removal? Maybe a website to visit?

  3. I use food=grade diachotomus earth crystals. You can spread the food-grade on them, on their beds, on the ground, on your clothes, they can eat it (best in canned food though or tuna) You can put it in the litter pans but it has to be the food grade. i found a flea in my bedroom the other day and spread the powder everywhere. It doesn’t surprise me to see a flea because that is where most of the newcomers first are placed. I also use Capstar but that only works to kill the fleas for 24 hours.
