With tears closing my throat

I inform all of you cat lovers that Reece is dead. It happened quite suddenly late Friday and I thought it might be because of the dewormer they gave her at the vet, so I didn’t pay that much attention when she went off her food. By Saturday night, it was clear she was suffering and had lost a huge amount of weight virtually overnight! I had pulled the kittens off of her days ago because as I said in an earlier post, she had given them everything she had and then some. Her kittens are fine and playing with all of the others downstairs.

This morning, I found her near-dead and rushed her to the vet. The suspicion is that she ruptered her uterus while giving birth or that she had severe pancreatitis which is why she couldn’t keep weight on. It was to late to save her, so we let her go. I went ahead and ordered a necropsy (despite the cost) because for the sake of her kittens, I need to know why she died. The vet did not think it was distemper (thank you God) again, he believes she had an internal bleed somewhere.

Bless you Reece, you leave behind five beautiful, roly poly kitties who knew you were dying as well. When I was carrying her downstairs to take her to the vet, her kittens were lined up at the bedroom door, in unison screaming. Reese was inside the carrier, almost already gone and didn’t make a sound. I get goosebumps thinking about that moment when they were collectively saying “Goodbye” to their momma. So hang the damn vet bill. I need to know why this beauty suddenly plummeted into a place where no one could reach her.

Goodbye Beautifulreece

  1. I could only give $10 but sent it to help with the vet visit and the procedure –

  2. Sorry to hear about the loss of Reece. As a cat rescue person that has been helping, caring and rescuing cats since 1988, I know how you feel. Its the greatest satisfaction when you save a feline and the worst nightmare when you lose one. My wife and I have had our hearts broken so many times in rescue that we can’t take much more and just wish we could get all our ferals off the streets and into a forever safe home. Hang in there, I am sure Reece got the greatest gift of all from the time she spent with you and that can only be measured in the love you gave her.

  3. DANG IT!!!! crying just thinking of those babies crying their good byes to the mama. breaks my heart, I hope this little bit helps. Thank you

  4. Such sad news. I am so sorry. You did your best for her. She left her kitties in very capable hands. Reece knew what she needed to do for her kitties.

  5. Beautiful Reece…my heart weeps. May she be forever young and carefree at the Rainbow Bridge…She travels there with your love that will accompany her always.
