Burlap Babies

This morning on the way to town as I was driving though the Narrows, I noticed a burlap bag tied up and laying by the roadside. A movement in the bag caught my attention so I pulled over to investigate. When I opened up the bag, I almost cried. Two mackeral tabby babies just days old were inside! They were flea-ridden and hot to the touch with bad dehydration. I rushed them to the vet where the vet did the best he could and then told me to just take them home, feed every 1/2 hour and hope for the best.

Mite died first and then her brother Bug followed soon after. I will keep to myself what I wish I could do to the asshole who dumped these kittens. They were only a few miles from my home, I just wish I had found them sooner-

I have to go back to the vet tomorrow with my Panic kitty. She is exhibiting some puzzling symptoms and I am unsure what is going on with her- if she has been poisoned with something or if she swallowed a foreign object- I hope they find out what is wrong with her. She stopped eating yesterday and has taken to camping out at the water bucket and drinking massive amounts of water-

  1. Disgusting human beings. Inhumane pieces of waste. Can you write a letter to your local paper? Can you report animal abuse to the police? Can you do something so people know to watch for these types of things and the no tolerance position we should have against it?

You probably gave those kittens peace in their final moments, being resuced from their burlap hell. God bless you for that.

I will give a reward if you can find the guilty party, and we can punish them legally…it won’t be much (under $1k) but it’s something to think about if you feel you can get traction somewhere. If it’s worth posting an offered reward for the criminals, it might just be a way to some justice.

  2. SO SAD

Someone i know brought her cat to the vet too. but it was to late to save the unborn kittens, as the cat was brought in for neuturing.
She said jokinglly to the vet DID THEY NOT DROWN THEM IN THE PAST??
Her nephew would have done it for free.
she even asked her child a week before if it wanted to have a litter.
Thank god my daughter told the child about what could have happened to the kittens.

she thought it was a normal statement.

bags were normal in this country in the past.
i am glad i was not with her when she went to the vet.
i know the vet was not too impressed with her.

That men or woman will get what he deserves at one stage in his life, what you do , you get back.
I just wished it was today. I just hope the men is not married with kids, as i do not think it is a very pleasant person to have as a father or mother.
maybe, as Amy said a reward for anyone who saw something suspicious at that road.

  3. Here in this area, cats are an afterthought- kittens a nuisance. It is a sad fact but there it is. I have been campaigning for years to get the local officials interested in cat welfare, but they could care less. “It’s a cat after all!”

I read the other day where someplace in Arkansas, they are taking the stray dogs in one town and driving them out to the woods and dumping them off! People just don’t care about animals, they seem to only care about themselves. As a friend of mine is fond of saying “The problem won’t go away until we start to spay and neuter the stupid people!”

The offer of the reward is wonderful, but I am afraid it won’t serve the purpose it needs to. Instead, donate it to an organization such as Best Friends in the name of Bug and Mite, two kittens who couldn’t overcome the odds-

  4. Hi

I read with shock that in Holland in Utrecht the town where i went to nursingschool people are allowed to shoot cats.
Cats are being shot and they can even shoot domestic cats,
totally horrified i was, thinking Holland was a catloving country.
The politicians in holland are fighting amongst one another as some politicians happen to be catlovers.

  5. Hi,
I am not surprised, although I did think Holland was a little smarter than the rest of the EU. I live in Barcelona and the feral cats here are everywhere. There is poisoning, torturing and starvation for these poor animals. There are no criminal charges against animal cruelty here in Spain because the government would self-incriminate with their beloved archaic Bullfighting. 94% of the Spanish people don’t support the barbaric event, yet it remains because of ‘tradition’ and revenue/tourism. So frustrating and sad. I am trying to connect some local caregivers to people in the US for feline birth control (acc-d.org) – this would be a perfect city for a clinical trial. Something needs to happen, they do not care for animals here and it’s deplorable. I feel very helpless.

  6. The irish think when they go to spain that you can not handle stray cats.
We have been to spain a few times and some nice people living in mallorca left food out for the poor cats. i asked the doctor after and he said you can touch the cats in spain.
I think tourist are given a wrong expression about cats in spain.
But in mallorca cats go into tourist apartments and everyone in ireland i met thinks they have diseases.
some woman in holland are buying dogs out of the pounds in spain and rehome them to holland.
they also do with cats now.
I sponsor 3 cats with aids(BUDDY CATS ON YOU TUBE)so they find houses for them and people who donate pay towards their food. and medicine.
They also have friends who rescue cats from shelters abroad.
In ireland they sent petitions to spain to stop the bullfighting but i think they will never stop as it is a tourist attraction and as long as their are tourist there will be bullfighting. I just wished people boycotted the olympic games as what they do with the cats in china is beyond belief.
http://www.zwerfkat.com is a group who rescue cats in holland and most will speak dutch. You could get onto that website. and get together with the adminstration. Lots of woman who connect to that website are very generous and you may get lots of donations towards the neuturing scheme .we have to start to educate the children in school but it starts with parents telling their children cats are dirty and kids copy their parents.
zwerfkat is in the south of Holland with the headoffice in Belgium.
you will get great support from the woman over there.

Do you also have a shelter.

  7. hi amy

  8. maybe we could start a minimarathon in spain. all the spanish woman walking around spain for 10 kilometers and arrange a price or something
like 100 euro(i will sponsor that )so even the tourists from IRELAND will join in, and have a ball of atime , and believe me or not, you get lots of woman walking, you tell them 5 euro for the walk to join, and believe me many people will want to walk. i even sponsor another 1oo for the 2e person to finish that line.
    even raffle tickets.
and i am sure you get a lot of people wanting to join/ and we do a picnic after, with some sort of a barbeque.
and i even could go onto the dutch website doing raffle tickets.
and you could go to every pub in spain asking to donate a bottle of hteir goodies .
and have some spanish woman dancing a flamingo free of charge.
or do birthday parties for animals.
rent an marqie and a bouncing castle free of charge offcourse all in aid of cats, and take a cat who is very friendly. to join the celebrations, and ask them to bring a cat goodie for hte cat. and changes are theybring a cat home.

but i would like to get togehter in spain.

my family in holland is very good with htemoney so i would not have any problems to donate money.
but i think if i came over to spain i could do a lot of good.

  9. hello,
I love the idea of a mini-marathon! I wish we could help with the education that they are not bad or dirty or diseased, they are abandoned, friendly and starving. I heard that they were sending many dogs to Holland, but I didn’t know the cats were going, too. That is great, but it’s so sad that it has to come to that.

I don’t have much luck with the shelters, it’s mostly other women who know of colony care givers and rescuers. I think there is something that can be done – we should talk.
