She has come home!!

Poor kitty, she looks like a burn victim! But she is home where she belongs on a special diet and some meds. Aurora got into the room accidentally this afternoon and she went right to this kitten and started feeding her! I went to take Pumpkin from her and Aurora told me to back off by growling at me. Her milk is good and it has dropped again and she has decided she  knows how to take care of pumpkin better than any ol human. Interestingly, she is NOT allowing the other kittens to nurse her, just Pumpkin

There is a fear that she might have an auto-immune skin disease called pemphigus. It can come about due to a bad viral infection. If the lesions start to increase or get weepy- we will be forced to do a biopsy to see if this is the problem. I am hoping the lesions stay the size they are- she doesn’t need the added stress of a return vet visit and then be put under when she is in such a weakened state.

Also just designed this donation box to put in a local feed store. I wanted it to stand out from the others there- but then I wonder if I went out of the box a bit to far? The beads spell out Please Donate.

  1. Pumpkin does look terrible! But she is home and on her way up. That Aurora is one incredible cat. She is determined to help any kitten in need. Good for her!

And the donation box will do fine, I think. Anything that stands out is good.

  2. Oh that precious girl’s will to survive is incredible! She looks so miserable. Yay for Aurora! So keeping Pumpkin in my prayers! The box looks great!

  3. Methinks that Aurora is the feline version of YOU! So nurturing, so determined to do everything in her power to help the little ones. I’m praying for Pumpkin. And I think you did a great job in designing a quite noticeable donation box – and that is the point. May the weekend be good to all in your home!

  4. How is Charity doing MA? Seeing her picture on your donation box made me remember her. I so wish I lived closer to you!

  5. donation box looks great, hope it fills up fast. Poor little girl so looks rough, Thank goodness she has you and Aurora to help her through. Both angels on Earth.

  6. Tater,

I went to see her last week. The gentleman and his daughter live on 90 acres up in the mountains. She is there along with 6 of my other cats living in cat heaven. He was overrun with field mice and she is a great hunter. When I did my kitty call after I got out of the car, she came out from under a log pile, saw it was me and with a flip of her gorgeous tail, she was gone again! LOL I could just hear her saying to me “mama, you are NOT going to put me back into that cage if I can help it!”

It is the ideal place for her because she is so pet aggressive. She does get groomed by the daughter several times a week, but otherwise she is an outside kitty living with all the rest. Mikal said at night when he is working outside, she will come and join him and sit near his feet.

Mikal took a total of nine of my barn cats and I didn’t see three of them while I was there. But the place is huge and there are so many hidey holes and buildings. He feeds faithfully day and night and makes sure fresh water is available. For an old codger this farmer is forward thinking about barn cats. Most of them figure that the cats can survive simply by hunting rodents, but a starving cat can’t hunt. Mikal flea treats, feeds and waters the cats and deworms when necessary. It really is a wonderful place for kitty who has been traumatized in life.

  7. Poor Little Pumpkin! The lovely calico baby in the background is pretty cute and looking pretty concerned over Pumpkin
