Laurel

At the midnight feeding, she had passed. Hardy is hanging on. he is fighting the feedings but he is also the biggest one of the litter and the only one left. I am  hoping he has the strength to keep on fighting.

Hardy is back from the vet and the vet said I should consider changing his name to Bruiser. The poor little guy is one solid  bruise from top to bottom! But he was active and playing and sucking any fingers that came into view- so when we got home, we had a food fest. He should be okay in a few days and the bruises will fade in time. He weighs 3.5 ounces.

Also this weekend, I trapped a nuisance cat and took it into the vet to be tested. Sadly, Jeffers tested positive for FeLV and we put her to sleep. They said she was about 14 years old, so she was a carrier- not actively sick. 🙁

  1. Hi. Found your blog this a.m. when looking for insight into my old feral cat’s feeding behavior and saw this sad story about Laurel & Hardy. Very sad because a vet I trust once told me if a kitten is not nursed at least 2 weeks by a mother cat, it’s immune system will be too weak to fight off disease. Those people were crazy to think they were doing that momma cat a favor by putting its birthing best on display for a family with noisy little kids to observe! You can only do so much to counteract such ignorance and resulting violence. Hope you were able to get that mom cat resettled and de-stressed so she can return to normal and care for those 2 that survived this ordeal. Praying for you! Kittens and mom, too.

  2. aww that is so sad, she didn’t have much of a chance but the best chance she had was you. Praying the little guy makes it.

  3. Hang in there, Hardy. Make it for all your brothers and sisters. Three and a half ounces! Keep eating, little guy.

It’s sad for Jeffers. Fourteen years, and who knows how long with no one to love her. Godspeed, Jeffers.
