What happened to trusting people?

Found out late today that a check written for a substantial amount for the adoption of two of my kittens was written on a closed account and came back NSF. I have already deposited the check and given the monies to my vet, so come Monday morning, I will be scrambling because I will be going into NSF territory with CATS which makes me very sad. The person had already given me the check post-dated and I kept it until the date she said to release it, but she never told me the funds weren’t available. Used to be a handshake and your word were as good as gold- but apparently not anymore. Life sure has changed in the last few years. Just wish she had been upfront with me instead of trying to get away with something.

On a better note, I have an ad out for the adoption of the 13 black cats I currently have here and three of the thirteen were adopted today! I drove out to Creswell, then up to Cascdia and over to Springfield, but three of the kittens now have wonderful homes. I wonder if the other ten might be placed in similar situations? Time will tell-

  1. sigh… Some people seem to run scams just to keep in practice.

About all we can suggest is call the cops — at least that way you’ll have a record of the fraud. You might want to double check on the kittens, too, if that is feasible. Bast alone knows what kind of life they’ve dropped in to.

In fact, you might be able to combine the two, asking for a police for protection while you recover the kittens.

  2. I did call and all I got was her voice mail. I told her that I hoped she managed the care of the kittens better than she manages her checkbook! LOL I ask for a donation, there is no contract, so basically the cops say I am out of luck. The ironic part about it is if she had leveled with me in the beginning- that would have been the best. I know what it is like to be strapped especially after a nasty divorce. All she had to do was be honest with me. Last week I adopted out a kitten to a disabled vet for $10.00 and a dozen eggs! What can I say? This kitten who didn’t trust anyone when I put her in Samuel’s arms, she just melted as if she belonged there. It was the right thing to do.

  3. It still might be worth checking in on them, if there is an easy way to do that. For the kittehs sake if nothing else.

It would be nice to be sure she isn’t using those kettehs as bait animals in a dog fighting ring or something.

  4. I don’t think she is mistreating the kittens. I just got last week a slew of photos of her daughters sleeping with and playing with the kittens. If it weren’t for her two daughters- I would have been over there last night demanding those two kittens back. But I can’t do that to the girls- they were the ones who did all the research on what it takes to have a kitten in their home. I just have to chalk this up to experience and I have let go of my anger. It doesn’t serve any good purpose to not forgive people who are going through rough times. It isn’t always the easiest thing to do- but it is the right thing to do.

  5. Serena and Jazzmin, right? Wow, hopefully this was an oversight and she pulled out the wrong checks in the all excitement of adoption. I feel she owes you some kind of explanation and I feel like you need to put a little pressure on her to give it to you.
You have given kitties to people that you feel were right. While her children don’t have to know about this, this woman needs to be made aware of what kind of problems it’s caused for you. If it was an honest mistake (and it does happen) she’ll make it right either in dollars or words. If it was meant to scam you, then she doesn’t care what you’re going through.
I kinda think it would be best to check on those pretty kitties.

  6. I guess post-dated cheques aren’t the way to go. That’s too bad. It seems strange that people would pay for cats with bad cheques. They don’t go together. In any case, it’s a sad reminder of the kind of world we live in.

  7. She is emailing me now and hasn’t even apologized. I am trying to get the kittens back will let you know what she says-
