Cyclone Update

cyc

21 days ago, Cyclone came back home. I have been slowly introducing him to the rest of the group, but it is slow going. He and McGee don’t get along yet.

Here he is in his enclosure. I put him in the house the other night as the patio does still get a bit cold. We still have to insulate the roof. But he didn’t like being warm and safe and wanted to go back to this enclosure. I do have a heater out there for him as it is getting into the 30’s now. He is eating, drinking and pooping normally now. It was determined he had a strange parasite invasion but the meds have helped to clear it up. I can’t even spell the parasites he picked up but the vet said it was from drinking contaminated water.

Name change

This little kitten is fearless. It doesn’t matter how big the cat is, she faces them all and chases them all. Mike and I were being highly entertained earlier tonight.

Decided to change her name in honor of a female explorer, so now Wynter is being called Kira- She is exploring the whole room and nothing fazes her-

“I am only one..

“I am only one but still I am one. I cannot do everything but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, let me not refuse to do the something I can do.”

I love that quote by Edward Everett Hale so I wanted to share it with my readers. There are times when I wonder what God has planned next but I would never want to know what is coming as it would diminish the faith I have that He makes everything right.

Tonight at the grocery store, the manager approached me and said the store is going to make a one-time donation of cat food to CATS Inc! I have no idea the size of the donation and will find out tomorrow when I show up to pick up this loving gift. I am truly humbled that God always reveals himself in the details of my life and the only thing I can do to pay him back is remain faithful, read the word and help those who need it along the way.

I shared the Wynter story with a dear Christian friend of mine and she wrote back something that made me smile:

God knew where to place that baby in order to get food, warmth, and love! I was just imagining Him watching you leave, driving to the store, and then He has a little smile as He whispers to that precious kitten: “She is on the way little one.”

I grumbled all the way to the store last night. It was cold, I was tired, but Mike needed milk. Now I am sorry for the grumbles and God has blessed me with yet another sweet mackeral tabby kitty whose purrsonality jumps out at all who encounter her. Next time, I will keep the grumbles to myself-

I May be a Cat Magnet, but I can’t Sex Kittens!

“He” turned out to be a she and I am calling her Wynter because she was so cold when I got her here. Her temp was 97.2! I gave her warming fluids, gave her warmed up baby food and put her on a heated cat bed. She just got back from the vet where she tested negative for the nasties and got vaccinated, de-wormed and examined. She also ran away with more hearts there with the staff! I almost didn’t bring her home! But in the end, the tech caved and said she had to many cats right now.

So Wynter is home and the vet said if she is 5 weeks old he would be surprised. But he was captivated by her personality which is quite strong. She jumped on B-Dog’s belly this morning! She is fearless!

Cy has had his blood drawn it will be back on Monday, but he is pooping normal stool now- thank God. I started feeding him BLUE Wilderness dry mix and it seems to agree with him.

Did I say Two? Meet the Third-

There I was minding my own business, running quickly to the store to get more food for Cyclone when outside the store, I see this little boy with a large plastic open container. I knew before I walked up to it that he had kittens- and he did, he had one. This poor baby was shivering in the cold, there was no blanket, towel or anything to keep this baby warm. I picked him up, tucked him into my sweatshirt and told the kid I would take this baby home.

He was so hungry- he almost ate the dish! I have de-flead him and de-wormed him and he is in the living room in a large cage squealing for someone to pick him up and love on him.

So the third one arrives and here he is. I am calling him Tyler and he is a skinny little boy.

On a good note, Cyclone actually passed solid stool today! YAY! I am feeding him a new dry food that has no grains or fillers- it seems to agree with him- whew!

At any rate, please meet hungry Tyler

Two newcomers arrive

Two new kittens are now upstairs. One is a siamese boy (neutered) and the other a mackeral tabby (girl spayed). They were being terrorized by a small breed dog and the owner was scared the dog was going to really harm the kittens, so she called me.

They are not feral (even though the owner said they are) they are just scared and wondering why their world was rocked. The Siamese boy loves to hiss at me but it is all bluff. I have held him and let him know he is safe. The mackeral tabby just likes to hide for now. They are eating like they have never seen food- the gal just shared with me she ran out of cat food three days ago and couldn’t afford to buy more…sigh…but at least they are neutered- and now they will be able to have food all the time for these cats eat better than we do! LOL

Moving onward slowly

Cyclone’s diarrhea is out of control so we advance to the second fecal test to see if it holds answers. He isn’t lethargic any more, jumps off the bed and comes to greet me when I go into the room but he is filling up the litter pan with his waste. I keep giving him fluids- I need to go buy another bag of lactose ringers and there still isn’t any noticeable swell when I give him the fluid. I am hoping this next test will give us some much-needed answers as to what might be going on with this handsome man.

On Behalf of Cyclone and the other kitties..

I would like to thank all the cat lovers out there who make it possible for me to continue to try and help these cats. The other day I woke up knowing full well that because of the pricey vet visits for Cy, the cats account was getting rapidly depleted. I prayed about it trusting God is in control and in the mail I received a gift card from someone in GA! This made it possible to order a much-needed heated cat bed for Cyclone who Mike affectionately calls “Bones.” With several donations following, cat food was purchased, a vet payment met and cat litter replenished. Cy is going through about 5 litter pans in two days. I have virtually never had to buy so much cat litter for one cat in my life!

SO THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart and the bottom of all the paws here that benefitted from those gifts.

The vet just called and Cyclone’s fecal was negative! So we will give the pills a chance to work. If after five days the diarrhea and malaise continues, we will move on to the blood work stage and hope to find answers.
My hope is the metronidazole will work and Cy’s system will straighten out.

He is only eating baby food at this time- but he is eating which is good. So I am off to buy more jars of ham and lamb which seem to be his personal favorites!

God Bless You All! Thank you for believing in this cause-

Careful Choices

It has been decided that first off the vet will run a fecal on the cyclone and let me know if the results hold answers. Since this is just a basic test if he doesn’t improve then there is a second fecal to run that is a bit more costly.

Should that test fall short of delivering answers and the diarrhea and malaise continue, we will do blood work on the Cyclone to get a baseline and to hopefully have answers quicker.

I thought I was being smart as I was out of dried beans (to use as a substitue cat litter for the poop sample) so I used uncooked rice. BAD idea- rice soaks up moisture (DUH MA!) so it is back to square one with the beans until Cyclone has another bout of diarrhea. I am currently making so many visits to my vet that they need to install a revolving door or give me my own parking space! LOL
